Medical Imaging System

(An advanced software package for processing medical images)

About MEDIMAGE version 1.0

Medical Imaging System version 1.0 is a collection of image acquisition and a number of AI based image understanding tools developed using Visual C++, and it works in Windows environment. PATHOSOFT is one such tool which could be used by a pathologist for analyzing human body fluids with the help of a built-in expert system. This includes a bit of hardware also. The algorithms pertaining to most of the routines in this package have been developed in a novel logico-mathematical framework called Cellular Logic Array Processing (CLAP). This nontraditional paradigm advocates pattern-directed Search And Replace (SAR) techniques, and so, it guarantees speed and precision.

Hardware required

MEDIMAGE version 1.0 will run on any IBM compatible PC which has at least 64 MB RAM and 4 GB hard disk. A high resolution color monitor is recommended for a good display. The operating system should be Windows 95 and above or Windows NT and XP.

Other platforms

MEDIMAGE version 2.0 runs on Silicon Graphics workstation with the operating system IRIX 6.1 and above. MEDIMAGE version 3.0 runs on SOLARIS OS based SUN workstation. MEDIMAGE version 3.0 would be ported to SUN SOLARIS environment under the SUN Partnership program.

Potential users

Clinical and research laboratories, Super special hospitals,  Diagnostic centers, Computer aided operation  theaters, Medical consultants and even Biomedical Engineers would find this package to be very useful. Radiologists and medical imaging experts, Intelligence agencies which make use of sensed imageries for crime detection could make the best use of this package. MEDIMAGE has been designed by a Professor of Signal Processing, and developed by experts in the field of Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, of course, guided by highly qualified practicing medical professionals. So, academic institutions would also benefit from  using this package. The main menu is open and students can include their own DLL files.

More about MEDIMAGE

MEDIMAGE is a high quality image understanding system and it consists of four modules: (i) Image Acquisition, (ii) Image Processing, (iii) Pattern Recognition and Analysis and (iv) AI Based Diagnostic Support. The image acquisition module consists of software tools that are required for obtaining computer compatible images using a digital camera which is usually attached to a clinical microscope. Some programs of this module could be used to preprocess images from various sources like NMR, MRI scanner, ultra sound scanner, color doppler scanner, CT scanner and SPECT scanner. The preprocessed images could be further analyzed using various soft tools of image processing and pattern recognition modules. The AI based diagnostic support module consists of an expert system which would guide the user in establishing opinion on the condition of the scanned portion of the body in a more reliable manner. Moreover, facilities like report handling, data base management and billing are also  included in this module.

About PATHOSOFT version 1.0 (A computer Aided Tool for Clinical Laboratories)

PATHOSOFT is a proven hardware system (clinical microscope fitted with a powerful digital camera and a Personal Computer) integrated with the built-in AI based software which is available as a prototype system. This could be made available as a ready-made product for international marketing. The software has been developed in Visual Studio.Net environment.

Hardware required

PATHOSOFT version 1.0 will run on any IBM compatible PC which has at least 16 MB RAM and 4 GB hard disk. A high resolution color monitor is recommended for a good display. The operating system should be Windows 95 or above.

Other platforms

PATHOSOFT version 2.0 runs on Silicon Graphics workstation with the operating system IRIX 6.1 and above. LPGS version 3.0 runs on SOLARIS OS based SUN workstation. PATHOSOFT version 3.0 would be ported to SUN SOLARIS environment under the SUN Partnership program.

Potential users

All clinical laboratories, Diagnostic centers, Corporate hospitals, Government hospitals, Research laboratories, Crime detection units, Forensic laboratories, Academic institutions, Medical practitioners would find this package very useful. PATHOSOFT has been designed by a Professor of Computer Science, and developed by experts in the field of Computer Graphics. This package is compatible to all Micro Soft products, highly user friendly and supported by on-line help. Image processing and pattern recognition play dominant roles in PATHOSOFT, a software for pathological applications. This is a value added and customized software package consisting of selected program units from LIPS and macros made out of them. A case study has been provided here which exhibits the technical capabilities of PATHOSOFT : A Case study

Consider the still image of a human sperm sample shown below. It is intended to find out the health of selected sperm by its physical dimensions and evaluate very precisely the concentration (volume fraction in a specific volume and the motility factor by finding the statistical means of velocities of individual sperm.
